PHILIPPINES: COMMUNITY CENTER AND SHELTER BY HIRWA PEACE

After super Typhoon Rai wiped out most of the island, a local organization called Lokal Lab mobilized different groups and gathered donations immediately to aid in rebuilding from the disaster. Lokal Lab aims to build the island back stronger with a project focusing on the reconstruction of a new Burgo’s community center, known to them as Lokal Tabo. The Lokal Tabo is a local community market that serves as a platform for local artisans, creators and producers to display and sell their goods without any fees and for the local community to easily access locally and naturally grown produce and plastic-free alternatives. The design of the community center was crowd-sourced through an international competition that JI volunteer Hirwa Peace participated in for his university thesis, guided by JI personnel.
