The story
A school expansion connected to the enterprise beside it.
Little Angels had already grown into an established pre-primary through sixth-grade school in Nyarutarama when its facilities began limiting the quality and reach of the program. Students from İzmir University of Economics worked through Journeyman International to improve the campus layout, classroom function, and the relationship between school life and the neighboring Good Grounds Coffee enterprise. The proposal uses clearer circulation, more engaging learning areas, and better shared space to make the existing site work harder before assuming expansion alone will solve every problem. Connecting education and a functioning local business also opens possibilities for practical learning and a more financially resilient campus.
The project responds to Rwanda’s low pre-primary enrollment while remaining specific to one school and its community, rather than claiming to solve a national gap. The archive documents student-led design work, not verified construction. Its central contribution is a more connected campus where children’s learning, adult work, and everyday neighborhood life can support rather than compete with one another.
