SM High School Playground

SM High School Playground was proposed to give students in Mubende a safe, purposeful setting for movement, sport, and time together outside the classroom. On a school campus, a playground is not leftover space. Its layout, surfaces, shade, visibility, and relationship to teaching buildings can shape whether students feel welcome to participate and whether staff can supervise activity comfortably. The project treats recreation as part of education: team games build cooperation, informal play supports well-being, and open space gives the wider school community room for assemblies and events.

A durable, straightforward design would need to respond to Uganda’s sun and seasonal rain while remaining affordable to maintain. The reviewed Drive archive did not contain a final design book, partner brief, or construction record for this entry, so its detailed form and completion status cannot be confirmed. It should be presented as an early proposal whose value lies in recognizing that young people need room to move, gather, and belong as much as they need classrooms.
