I am the principal architect at Reiss Design Studio, an architecture firm in San Luis Obispo that I started 7 years ago. I have been on two trips to Africa - one to Uganda and one to Tanzania (both to design schools with Engineering Ministries International). I have also designed a secondary school in Tanzania without visiting the site and created a site master plan for a school, church, and teacher housing in Uganda for a ministry based in Templeton California (I did not visit Uganda for this project) . My firm (Reiss Design Studio) has a "Change the World" program in which up to 10% of each team member's time can be allocated to a humanitarian project of their choice. I have a three areas that I would like to focus my architecture efforts on: (1) Africa, (2) Brazil, (3) United States Veterans and organizations that serve them. I am very interested in seeing if there is a way that I can work with your organization and be paired with a project in one of the areas noted. It is important to me to be able to travel to the site (as I believe the projects have greater potential to be appropriately designed). I also anticipate that I would be able to bring other San Luis Obispo/ Santa Barbara County professionals to the team to join me if those specific engineering/ design specialties were needed for the specific project. At this time, I do not anticipate that the project would involve any of my employees as they have their own "heart" projects that they are pursuing with "Change the World."

I believe that I have had the great honor of being able to pursue my dream of becoming an architect, a position gives me the opportunity and responsibility to use the professional skills that I have to improve the lives of others. After many years of prayer and practice, I have focused my professional humanitarian attention on the areas noted above.
