The story
Women learning construction by building their own center.
EcoBuildHer makes the construction process itself the curriculum. Led by the Akinkanju Network Empowerment Initiative, the program trains single mothers, widows, vulnerable women, and young people in sustainable building skills while participants help create a permanent center for future training. The campus combines classrooms, administrative space, a main hall, and practical work areas serving both EcoBuildHer and the organization’s broader entrepreneurship programs. That recursive idea—learn by building the place where others will learn—turns a capital project into paid experience, confidence, and visible proof of skill.
Journeyman International supported the master plan and design coordination with a focus on environmentally responsible materials and phased implementation. A 2025 partner progress report states that the main structure, roof, windows, doors, core rooms, water, and electricity had been completed; it does not yet establish every planned phase as finished. The story is therefore one of substantial construction progress and local leadership: a training center taking shape through the capabilities it exists to grow.
