The story
The common room at the heart of a vocational village.
Within the M2535 Vocational Village, the community center provides the shared civic space that connects water, agriculture, healthcare, training, and enterprise programs. Flexible rooms can host classes, meetings, outreach, and local events, while shaded gathering areas allow activity to extend outdoors in the Dominican climate. The building is positioned to be easy to reach from different parts of the campus and useful even as other phases develop around it. That adaptability matters in a long-term social-business model, where programs and partners will change but the need for common ground remains.
Journeyman International’s design role was to make the center more than leftover multipurpose space: storage, sanitation, circulation, and room proportions are considered so different users can genuinely share it. The archive does not confirm construction, so this remains a component of the larger proposal. Its architectural purpose is social cohesion—give the vocational village a place where separate systems and groups can meet, coordinate, learn, and recognize themselves as part of one development.
