A Haitian school designed as education and outreach infrastructure.
Mòn Briyè Primary School was developed near Les Cayes with Life In Abundance and the Haitian American Caucus to serve approximately 250 children while supporting programs beyond the school day. Classrooms anchor the campus, but adult job training, microenterprise activity, community outreach, and volunteer housing broaden its role. Heather Bing’s design research emphasizes the relationship between people and place—the sea, mountains, climate, movement, and emotional experience of arrival—while the practical proposal must also provide shade, ventilation, sanitation, and durable construction. Volunteer accommodation supports ongoing partnerships without displacing the school’s primary users, and shared spaces allow adult and community programs to operate around teaching schedules.
Journeyman International helped assemble the final presentation and program into a coherent campus proposal. The archive does not verify construction. Its central idea is a school that remains useful across ages and hours: children learn, adults build skills, and local programs gain a stable base for sustained work.
