Nossa Escola da Terra

Nossa Escola da Terra was proposed near Cabo de Santo Agostinho as a rural school and community center capable of growing into a larger learning landscape. The first phase combines age-based classrooms, breakout and outdoor teaching, arts and crafts, a veranda, kitchen and dining, accessible sanitation, administration, and a chapel that also works as library and assembly hall. Later phases expand the school and add campgrounds, allowing the site to serve education, community gathering, and longer stays without requiring everything at once. The plan responds to a sharp rural literacy gap while treating farmland and forest as part of the campus context.

Journeyman International’s design uses phased construction, accessible routes, outdoor congregation, and multipurpose rooms to keep each investment useful. The archive documents a 2017 proposal with a 2017–2020 phase vision, not verified completion. Its central idea is a school that grows like a commune—learning, food, worship, play, and public life sharing one evolving place.
