Better pig housing designed to improve both welfare and livelihoods.
Premium Meat Company’s rural-farming initiative focuses on an overlooked piece of agricultural infrastructure: the pig house. Poor drainage, ventilation, sanitation, and crowding can harm animals, increase disease, and reduce the income farmers depend on. Journeyman International’s proposal develops improved housing with separable pens, manageable feeding and cleaning routes, airflow, shade, water, and waste handling. Access to stronger breeding stock is paired with facilities capable of protecting that investment, while a repeatable design can support training and adoption by more than one farmer.
The project connects animal welfare to food safety, household livelihood, and the resilience of local supply. The archive does not provide a readable final book or verify construction, so this remains a design initiative rather than a claimed operating network. Its architectural value is practical: a modest agricultural building, carefully detailed around daily labor and animal needs, can make production cleaner, safer, and more financially dependable.
