The story
A football pitch anchors learning, health, and opportunity.
Umuri Foundation uses football to create pathways for young people, but the Opportunity Eco-Hub is designed to support life beyond the field. On land leased from the City of Kigali, the proposal pairs an artificial pitch with changing rooms, offices, a health room, education space, and an upper-level cafeteria. Construction is intended to proceed in phases, beginning with site preparation and the pitch before the building grows around available funding. The site's wetland classification makes environmental review, drainage, and mitigation central design responsibilities rather than secondary approvals.
A compact footprint, shaded edges, accessible movement, and durable construction help the hub serve sport, mentoring, training, gathering, and everyday administration without taking more ground than needed. Earthworks began before the current design phase, but the complete hub is not built. The project remains in development. Its strongest idea is adjacency: the energy of football can lead directly into learning, health support, relationships, and the practical spaces where future opportunities are organized.
